There are 9 different programs offered through WCCA in which the students can explore. They are Visual Arts, Media Arts, Dance, Drama, Vocal, Piano, Band, Strings and Guitar.
The Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts was established in 1989 as a place to give students, gifted in the arts, the opportunity to work in a more intense atmosphere, with students of equal calibre and with the same interests and to learn from a staff of people with a real expertise in each area.
Originally, the program was called the "Windsor Centre for the Creative Arts" because the intention was to have students bring this arts enrichment back to their home school but the program had grown so much that the majority of students called Walkerville their home school and the name was changed to "Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts".
Courses are offered in piano, vocal, band, guitar, strings, drama, dance, music theatre, visual arts and media arts. Students are auditioned in December of the previous school year for entry into the program.
The program continues to grow in both numbers and reputation as our students present work of the highest standard in our Windsor-Essex community and beyond. Many of our students have gone on to careers in the arts but others have put their training to good use in many other careers.
Many of our students also gain invaluable experience through our Specialist High Skills Major: Arts and Culture Program. Students gain hands on experience within the Arts and Culture sector to explore a variety of pathways in the Arts. For more information about SHSM click here:
